Course Fee $125

This course is designed to give the college or secondary teacher, or others, some insights, resources and references to provide some answers to their students and stimulate class discussion and research into the many alternatives to fossil fuels such as solar, wind, bio-fuels, geo-thermal, methane production from waste, and other innovations that are appearing in locations all over the world.  While a fossil fuels such as oil have the advantage of providing energy for numerous needs such as transportation, home heating, industrial energy needs, they have the major disadvantage of polluting our atmosphere and soil.  Oil, especially, has a limited supply. A Saudi oil leader commented during an interview that they were looking for about 50 years more major of oil production.  They are currently investing in solar and alternative energy research to be prepared for that date.

No one green alternative energy source that has the versatility of oil, so one must ask the question which alternatives are best for specific applications.  What are their costs and will their use require major changes in our life style?  This course will provide PowerPoint presentations on the history, current use, and future of a variety of alternative energy sources. There will be videos and virtual tours of faculties.  Simple projects will be presented that will enable experimentation with some of these alternative sources. The students of this course will be asked to prepare and share a single lesson plan using the resources of the class or other materials they can find.  All enrolled students will be mailed a CD with the presentations and references to find that additional information.
